Are there PFAS in yoga pants and activewear?
Many mainstream activewear brands use PFAS-based finishes on yoga pants and leggings to provide moisture-wicking, stain resistance, and a smooth hand feel. Testing by consumer advocacy organizations has found detectable PFAS in activewear from several major brands, including products not explicitly marketed as water or stain resistant.
This is especially concerning because activewear is worn during exercise when the body is hot, pores are open, and sweat increases chemical transfer from fabric to skin. Yoga pants fit tightly against large areas of skin including the thighs, hips, and waist. The combination of tight fit, sweat, and PFAS-treated fabric creates optimal conditions for dermal absorption.
PFAS-free activewear made from natural fibers performs exceptionally well without chemical treatments. Tencel leggings from brands like Tripulse and Reprise Activewear are naturally smooth, moisture-managing, and free from any fluorinated compounds. ONDU curates these alternatives specifically so you can exercise without chemical exposure concerns.
