Is polyester satin real satin?
Technically, yes — satin refers to a weave structure, not a fiber, so polyester satin is a legitimate satin weave. However, the weave alone does not deliver the benefits people associate with satin bedding. When most shoppers search for "satin pillowcases," they expect a smooth, cool, skin-friendly surface, and polyester fails on several of those fronts because it traps heat, does not wick moisture, and is made from synthetic plastic-based fibers.
Polyester satin can also accumulate static and attract dust mites more readily than natural-fiber alternatives. Over time the surface pills and loses its initial slippery feel, while genuine silk or cotton sateen retains its smoothness wash after wash when cared for properly.
ONDU encourages shoppers to look beyond the weave name and focus on the fiber content. Our marketplace labels every product with its exact composition so you always know what touches your skin.
